Some examples may be; difficulties with:

Choices and life changes.

Relationships, isolation, loneliness, need to be needed.

Family and friends.

Interpersonal skills* – awareness of self.

Images of self and/or body.

Feelings, emotions and behaviour.

Self Confidence and Self Esteem.

Anxieties and fears.

Perceptions of past personal life story, present situation and future fears and apprehensions.

Dramatherapy is suitable for all age groups,  male and female,  any ethnic background or religion. It may be held  a group or on an individual basis. You do not have to be able to ‘act’, or be a performer or an extrovert.

Dramatherapy enables verbal and non verbal communication. This can be beneficial for those who find difficulty expressing themselves verbally, or those who ‘hide’ behind over verbalising, complicating the issues.

Dramatherapy is a psychological therapy that may assist the individual to access their unconscious mind enabling their conscious to work towards understanding. It is eclectic using drama/theatre, art, music and dance/movement.

The tools or ‘props’ may be materials, objects, figures, pictures, a sandtray, dreams, past events or future aspirations. These tools help access symbolism, metaphor and projection, key aspects of this therapy.

Drama is about life and life is about drama; therapy is about getting to know yourself, what makes you, you, what seems to work, what doesn’t and what means are at our disposal to make changes that may be useful. Changing our perception of ourselves and of the world around us can open up new possibilities, we can emerge out of our chrysalis and experience living in a completely new and different way.
